Computer Applications & Clerical Skills Certificate

Students are introduced to various experiences designed to provide the skills necessary to gain employment, develop self-confidence, make decisions, and adapt to a changing work environment.

This customized program includes:

  • Computer Basics, Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, Keyboarding: Computer Basics includes hardware and software terminology, Windows OS, Internet search strategies, and creating email. Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing is used to teach keyboarding skills.
  • Business Writing: grammar, proofreading, online job searches, interview skills, resume and cover letter writing
  • Consumer Math: explores the practical use of computations necessary to individuals on the job and in daily living
  • Employability Skills Training Series: includes: Technology in the Workplace, Workplace Etiquette, Effective Communication, Customer Service, Conflict Management, and Managing Change & Goal Setting.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 9AM – 2:30 PM. 12 week program.


Individuals interested in enrolling in one of OIC's training programs are asked to come to our New London office at 106 Truman Street and complete a two-page application form.

The next step is our Pre-Training Assessment, which is offered every Tuesday at 1pm. This assessment provides OIC information on an individual's basic skills: Reading, Writing, and Math.

Following these two steps, individuals may be contacted by an OIC staff member for an intake interview.
