Intermediate Computer & Office Certificates

Following completion of OIC's Computer Applications & Clerical Skills program, students may choose between two intermediate certificate programs.

Intermediate Computer & Office Certificate
Students participate in classes and a practicum, plus a choice of concentrations in preparation for employment in front office settings:

Required:

  • Business Communications: Correspondence portfolio, proofreading, and a MailMerge project
  • Microsoft Outlook & Excel Project: Applying and reinforcing program skills
  • Receptionist Practicum: Front desk training with multiple phone lines and extensive customer service opportunities

Concentrations: (choose one)
  • Medical Terminology:: Supervised self-study of vocabulary and definitions essential in a medical office
  • Legal Terminology: Supervised self-study of vocabulary and definitions useful in a law office setting
  • Business Math Project: for individuals interested in numbers-related employment

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. 6-12 weeks. (Prerequisite: Computer Applications and Clerical Skills)



Intermediate Computer & Date Entry Certificate
This program offers core classes plus a choice of two computer applications in preparation for employment in a computerized office:

  • Business Communications: Correspondence portfolio, proofreading, and a MailMerge project
  • Microsoft Outlook:
  • QuickBooks Accounting Software or MS Access database software and project

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. 6-12 weeks. (Prerequisite: Computer Applications and Clerical Skills)

Individuals interested in enrolling in one of OIC's training programs are asked to come to our New London office at 106 Truman Street and complete a two-page application form.

The next step is OIC's Pre-Training Assessment, which is offered every Tuesday at 1pm. This assessment provides staff information on an individual's basic skills: Reading, Writing, and Math.

Following these two steps, individuals may be contacted by an OIC staff member for an intake interview.
