“My name is John Perkins and my story is rather lengthy so I will only give you some highlights.  In 1988, I was sentenced to three 15 year sentences in the South Dakota State Prison. In 2015, after I completed my prison term, I moved to Connecticut. I thought moving here where nobody knew me would be a great idea but due to my criminal background I couldn’t find anyone to hire me. It was suggested to me that I check out OIC.  Through OIC, I was taught how to use the computer and became CPR Certified.  I was also a student of the Culinary Arts Program in which I successfully graduated.

Since graduation, I have been able to use the skills that I have acquired at OIC within the community. Due to health issues, I have been unable to work, but OIC has given me the motivation to continue to use my skills as an entrepreneur with a focus on baking. What I love about OIC, is they don’t sit in judgement of those  they are trying to help.  They encourage you by being positive which builds up your confidence and self esteem.  If you or someone you know is looking to improve or further their education please consider OIC”.
